Privacy policy

This policy explains how Hijola handles information when you read our English-language publication, contact us, attend an event, or otherwise interact with this website. It applies to the service operated from Jalan Cempaka Putih Raya No. 15, Cempaka Putih, Jakarta Pusat, DKI Jakarta 10510, Indonesia. It does not apply to external websites linked from our pages.

1. Information we receive

We may receive your name, email address, phone number, message contents, event preferences, and technical information such as browser type, approximate location, device identifiers, and pages viewed. Please do not send medical records or unnecessary sensitive information. Contact information is provided voluntarily when you ask for a response.

2. Purposes

We use information to respond to enquiries, review corrections, administer events, protect the website, understand broad readership, and maintain records of editorial decisions. We do not use health information to make automated decisions. We do not sell personal information or use it to infer a person's medical condition.

3. Legal basis

Depending on context, processing relies on consent, performance of a requested communication, legitimate interests in operating and securing an editorial service, or compliance with applicable Indonesian law. Where consent is used, you may withdraw it by contacting us; withdrawal does not affect processing already completed lawfully.

4. Retention

General enquiries are normally retained for 24 months after the last meaningful exchange. Event administration records are retained for 12 months after the event. Consent and cookie preference records may be retained for up to 24 months. Security logs are generally retained for 90 days unless needed to investigate abuse or comply with a legal request.

5. Service providers

We may use hosting, email delivery, analytics, security, form, and event administration providers. They may process limited information only to provide contracted services, under confidentiality and security obligations. We select providers with regard to access controls, retention settings, and appropriate contractual protections.

6. International transfers

Some providers may process information in countries outside Indonesia. Where this occurs, Hijola takes reasonable steps to use contractual commitments, access limitation, and security measures appropriate to the transfer. You may ask for general information about relevant safeguards by writing to the contact address.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability where available, or withdrawal of consent. Send a clear request with the email used to contact us and the right you wish to exercise. We may need to verify identity before acting and usually respond within 30 days.

8. Children

The publication is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly request personal information from children. If a parent or guardian believes a child has contacted us, please write to the address below so we can assess and delete information where appropriate.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational measures, including limited access and encrypted transport where supported. No internet service is completely secure. If we identify a material incident affecting personal information, we will assess notification duties and communicate through an appropriate channel.

We review this policy during 2026. The current version is dated 12 May 2026. A material revision will be shown on this page with a new date and a short description of the change. Earlier versions may be retained for accountability and editorial history.
